ICE FOSSIL
Thermal. Temporal. Archaeological. ICE FOSSIL evokes the human experience with polar latitudes and frozen atmospheres. As the winter’s cycle unfolds, the ice structure retreats gradually, unearthing the fossilized physical structure obliquely suspended within its core.
Like the earth, the hut tilts with gravity. The ice, like the seasons, sheds itself, and a fur structure emerges. Thermal energy, created by a combination of user interaction, fire pit, thermal conductivity of copper walls, and a chimney that releases hot smoke on the ice surface, promotes the melting process. As time progresses, the hut gracefully levels with the frozen landscape beneath it. The hut – its dark, matted fur – is at once ancient and exotic like the mammoth, yet nascent and undiscovered…until now. Intrinsic. Evolutionary. Graceful as the fall of winter.
