HOUSTON SUSTAINABLE HOUSING
Operating in a multi-block area east of Houston, the project integrates housing, public infrastructure, ecosystem, and social systems. Traffic flows, land use patterns, environmental conditions, and demographics were drivers for the designs of unit types and the overall aggregations of units on each new block.
An important aspect of Houston is the necessity of automobile usage. The design of the housing blocks introduces a unique access sequence for the dweller from his car to his unit. In the sequence, the dweller experiences various open spaces and chance encounters with neighbors. This creates not only ecological sustainability but also social sustainability.
